            Major Oil & Gas Discoveries

CNPC has made the following major oil and gas discoveries since the late 1990s.

            Kelameili Gas Field (2008)

In 2008, Kelameili Gas Field was confirmed by the National Reserves Committee to have a proven reserve of over 100 billion cubic meters, the first reserve of this size ever discovered around the Junggar Basin, with a planned gas output of 1.5 million cubic meters per day.

            Nanpu Oilfield (2007)

The Nanpu Oilfield was discovered by CNPC in May 2007 in the Jidong tidal and shallow water areas of the Bohai Bay Basin.

Part of the Nanpu Sag in the north of the Huanghua Depression of the Bohai Bay Basin, Jidong Nanpu Oilfield is located in the Caofeidian Port area of the city of Tangshan, Hebei Province, where CNPC's Jidong Oilfield Company operates.

On September 29, 2004, a high yield commercial flow with a daily output of 700 cubic meters of oil and 160,000 cubic meters of natural gas was obtained in well Laopunan-1 from the Ordovician formation. During 22 months of production tests, the daily output was maintained at over 200 tons. Moreover, five oil bearing structures were discovered in the Nanpu sag of Jidong area after integral exploration. By the end of 2007, the proved, probable and possible reserves of Nanpu Oilfield were identified as 1.18 billion tons, including 450 million tons of proven oil in place.

Diffra Region of Block 1/2/4 in Sudan (2006)

In 2006, a high-yield oil flow was obtained from well Hamam South-1, located in the Diffra region of Section 4, Block 1/2/4 in Sudan. The formation testing resulted a daily crude output of 7,100 barrels, a record amount for an individual formation within Block 1/2/4.

Central Block at the Eastern Edge of the Precaspian Basin in Kazakhstan (2005)

In 2005, CNPC made a major breakthrough in exploring the central block at the eastern edge of the Precaspian Basin in Kazakhstan, and a high-yield oil flow was obtained from well A-1 in formation testing, with a daily output of 200 cubic meters. In 2007, five exploration wells drilled at the North Troyes structure of the block yielded commercial oil flows. Oil in place was estimated to be 150 million tons in the structure.

Neem Region of Block 1/2/4 in Sudan (2004)

In 2004, well Neem east-1, drilled in Neem region, Section 4 of Block 1/2/4 in Sudan, achieved a daily output of 4,700 barrels of light oil from Bentiu Formation during formation testing.

            Palogue Oilfield in Sudan (2003)

In 2003, Palogue Oilfield was discovered in Block 3/7 in Sudan, with the largest oil-bearing area exceeding 60 square kilometers. The field was tested to have a maximum oil-bearing thickness of 147.5 meters and an average of approximately 60 meters, with over 300 million tons of proven oil in place.

            Qingshen Gas Field (2002)

In May 2002, well Xushen-1 drilled in the Xujiaweizi area of the northern Songliao Basin was completed at a depth of 4,548 meters. In December 2004, well Xushen-1, the discovery well of Qingshen gas field, was put into production test, maintaining a daily gas output around 200,000 cubic meters.

            Xifeng Oilfield (2002)

In 2002, Xifeng Oilfield was discovered in the southern part of Longdong area in the Ordos Basin, with an exploration area of around 5,000 square kilometers. By 2006, the proven, probable and possible reserves of Xifeng Oilfield were estimated to be 620 million tons.

            Sulige Gas Field (2000)

On August 26, 2000, well Su 6 in the Ordos Basin in the western Suligemiao region produced 1.2 million cubic meters of industrial and unhindered gas flow, marking the discovery of the Sulige Gas Field. Up to 2007, the Sulige Gas Field had proven natural gas reserves of over 1 trillion cubic meters.

            Kela-2 Gas Field (1998)

In September 1998, a high-yield gas flow was obtained from exploration well Kela-2 in Baicheng County in Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, marking the discovery of the Kela-2 Gas Field. The gas field is located at Kelasu structural belt of the Kuche depression in the Tarim Basin, which was proved to have a gas-bearing area of 47 square kilometers, proven gas in place of 284 billion cubic meters and recoverable reserves of 229 billion cubic meters.
